A & C Black de luxe limited edition of 500 copies. this one is signed by the publishers and annotated on the limitation page as a 'Publisher's Presentation Copy'. Hardback. 4to. xii, 216pp. Cream boards with pink, green and gilt decoration to upper board and to spine. Top edge gilt. Silk page marker. 73 colour illustrations each with a captioned tissue guard; 20 black & white illustrations plus 58 smaller illustrations, mostly reproduced from Pencil Drawings in Birket Foster's Sketch-books, throughout the text and one etching preceding the frontispiece. Book in good condition. Boards generally lightly rubbed and soiled. Some wear to extremities of spine. Toning to free end papers. Some cracking at gutter but text block firmly bound with the exception of the first plate (op. p4), which is loose at lower third. Very occasional and slight spotting.
