He played in Major League Baseball for the New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, and managed the Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Chicago Cubs. MVP award in 1931. Baseball Home of Fame in 1947. A Very Good, grey marbled boards and green cloth spine with black emblem bottom front board, silver and black lettering on spine, binding intact, some sunning and discoloration to board and spine margins, small tear bottom rear joint buckram, top text block edge stained green with some fading and blemishes, slightly bowed boards, bit of rubbing along board edges, some age toning to pages, spine buckram starting to separate from backing material, in a Very Good, some handling/scuff marks to panels, bit of edge/corner wear, few small tears along edges, small moisture spot mid spine and verso, some scattered foxing to spine and verso and partially on verso panels, Dust wrapper. A nice and overall clean copy. 8vo[octavo or approx. 6 x 9], 286pp., bibliographical references, bibliography, indexed, b&w illustrations.
