About This Item
Blackie and Son, 1874-1875, in six half volumes.. Hardcover. Very Good. Illustrated by numerous authentic portraits on steel. These six half volumes, issued as a part work over 2 years, could then be rebound by the purchaser into 3 full volumes if so desired. These half volumes have their own title pages, but volumes 1, 3 & 5 also have engraved titles for full volumes 1, 2, and 3. Half volume 6 contains printed titles for full volumes 1, 2, and 3, as well as contents pages and lists of plates. 71 of 72 steel engravings. That of Sir William Forbes of Pitsligo missing and never bound in. lPerhaps the publisher had run out of copies of the plate of Sir William Forbes. Top & tail of spine of vol 6 slightly frayed. First 3 pages of vol 3 a little foxed. A very clean, crisp set
