The DJ shows quite a bit of wear with numerous large chips and tearing present. The underside of the jacket was neatly reinforced with masking tape along the edges and over the decades the glue has darkened the outside in the tape is brittle. Despite the rough dust jacket the blue cloth boards underneath are clean and crisp. The only issue is a dent along the bottom edge on the front board. Internal binding is good and text pages are secure. No hinge issues, no signatures or bookplates, no library markings. Paper is toned due to age and there is some very minor spotting present. The front end page is a small diamond-shaped embossed logo along the top edge which advertises the original bookseller.

Small tears at top and bottom edges of spine, board corners bumped, stray marks inside front board and flyleaf. Lieutenant Harry Adams, the author, was the chief officer and navigator on the Byrd expedition.
