Annotated collection of works by English poet & drammatist John Gay (1685 - 1732). The principal piece is The Beggars Opera (1728), a ballad opera and political satire dealing with life in low society, and was adapted by Bretch in The Threepenny Opera. Excerpts from Gay's other works includes "Newgate's Garland" from Trivia, and An Epistle to a Lady.
