About This Item

Tubingen Und Stuttgart: Rainer Wunderlich Verlag Hermann Leins, 1950. hardcover in dust jacket., dj has chip to spine's bottom, age-toning, general light wear. book has mild foxing to exterior of boards and to front endpaper. owner name (lancelot l. farrar, jr.) and "gottingen, 10/10/56" underneath. loose bookplate of same name and place laid-in and shows foxing., book shows pencil notes and underlining done neatly though extensively. several pages of hand written glossary notes are laid-in. it appears to aid the english speaker with the german vocabulary of this text.; the book is in german. 396pp., with large, attached fold-out map and chart in back. book details struggles of german military staff dealing with the german political powers that existed during the weimar republic and particularly the third reich and through 1945.; what really separates this copy from the others you may be seeing is the inclusion of a sheaf of translated and typed out letters. there are 15 and all are written by freiherr v. fritsche and addressed to barenin margot von schutzbar. they begin on feb. 18, 1938 and end on sept. 18, 1939. they are all hand typed with a few hand corrections. all have, "TRANSLATION" typed at top and underlined and are in english. many of them discuss their author's struggles to work through problems he has experienced in the course of his recent military career. they are stapled together and have a small yellow paper note affixed as cover letter from helen k. milbank and dated, 10/83, which states that the recipient may find these letters of interest and that she found them in her files. it seems likely that the letters are relevant to the theme of this book , in which they were found. farrar and milbank were married historians and published authors, he on germany, she on france.. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
