About This Item

UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,1st edn.[The pastel drawn colour pictorial illustrated sets of endpapers drawn by Glasgow artist Neil Smith.] FINE+. No owner inscrptn, and no price-clip to colour pictorial cartoon illustrated front free endpaper.Bright, crisp, clean, sharp-cornered,glossy laminated paper-covered boards with colour pictorial cartoon illustration with white-outlined red capitals with partial background black shadowing to same letters of 'BEANO' of book's title, white capitals of 'THE' superimposed within and at the top of letter 'B' of BEANO,'BOOK' and year date in graduated gold with partial background black shadowing to same - lettering repeated to rear board but on a smaller scale,a bright,crisp,non-sunned red spine/backstrip with white capital lettering (THE BEANO BOOK),and clean colour pictorial cartoon illustrated sets of endpapers.Negligible shelf-wear, bumping, creasing to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present - rear top corner minisculely rubbed with reciprocal paper loss, other corners unaffected and sharp, boards almost scoring/indent-free but for the front board with some, but only minimally and superficially sporadic indents, and clean coloured pictorial cartoon illustrated endpapers.Front board illustrated with Dennis and Gnasher driving their Menace Car through a computer-generated world.Rear board reveals an army of Beano characters robots (a story about Dennis+Gnasher travelling to a planet inhabited by them, then destroying them,is in the annual) chasing Dennis and Gnasher. Top+fore-edges aged/toned but without further blemish; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - pristine - appears unread other than my own collation.UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,1st edn,140pp [unpaginated] includes Beano comics' character's colour pictorial comic strips and stories and a Spot Dennis+Gnasher puzzle and 3 other interactive puzzles all untouched and not attempted.
Visually the exterior appearance is spectacular for a book of it's age and nature, i.e a child's book, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the corner tip rubbing that prevents a higher grading of NMINT.
The Beano Annual is the current name of the book that has been published every year since 1939,to tie in with the children's British comic 'The Beano'.As of 2021 there have been 83 editions. These annuals were traditionally published in July or August,in time for Christmas market, and since 1965 (dated 1966) they have had the date of the following year on the cover, before then,no date was given.
From 1943 to 1950 the annual was called 'The Magic-Beano Book, which referred to the merging of the short-lived sister comic 'Magic Comic' that then ceased publication in 1941 due to WW2 and Britain's introduction of strict paper-rationing.Though with war's end and the later end of paper-rationing too,the comic was never revived. However, some of the characters who had originally appeared in the pre-war 'Magic Comic' managed to remain as regular strips in the post-1950 'Beano' comic (such as Koko the Pup). The name reverted to the original title of 'The Beano Book' in 1950 and continued, the year changing for each subsequent annual, until the release of the 2003 book (in 2002) when it was renamed 'The Beano Annual'.The 2011 Beano Annual is taller and wider than previous annuals.
Because of his popularity,Dennis the Menace has appeared on the front cover of every annual since the release of the 1979 annual in 1978.The latest version came out 2020 and was dated 2021.From 2009 (out in 2008)until 2020 (released 2019),the book consistently retailed at £7.99.
