Adak, Alaska: Field Force Hdqtrs, [1944]., 1944. First edition. First edition. Original blue, black, and white printed wrappers, np (24pp.), illustrations, maps, chronology. Light rubbing to spine and light creasing to bottom corner of front flap else a very good copy. Text by Cpl. Dashiell Hammett and captions by Cpl. Robert Colodny. Hammett was sent to the Aleutians in August, 1943, and in September of that year he was sent to Adak, where he was assigned to help compile a two-year history of the Aleutian Campaign. This campaign was under the supervision of the Intelligence Section on Adak. The Aleutian Islands were strategic property during World War II, and the U.S. was very concerned with Japan in this regard. A Hammett "A" item. Scarce.
