Synopsis

Bad Characters was published in 1964, and is a fictional autobiography of a young girl named Emily Vanderpool. Emily is fussy, and likes to be alone. She often manages to insult potential friends and even her family with her selfish demands, and so eventually everyone but her cat refuses to be friendly with her. She catches a young urchin named Lottie stealing from her family's kitchen, and becomes fascinated with the awkward, confident, criminal girl and follows her into mischief.
