About This Item
London: Frederick Warne and Co. Very Good+. 1900. Hardcover. 56 pages; Contents clean and secure in original binding of reddish-brown cloth spine with pictorial boards depicting various nursery rhyme characters; boards rubbed at corners. Profusely illustrated with wonderful full page colour plates and pictorial borders and head-pieces on each text page by Victorian illustrator Walter Crane. The selection and arrangement of the nursery songs are by Lucy Crane, Walter's sister. Engraved and printed in colours by Edmund Evans. This collection contains 36 nursery rhymes along with their musical scores, including Mulberry Bush, Dickory Dock, Ding Dong Bell, Bo-Peep, Tom the Piper's Son, Jack and Jill; with lesser known ones such as Ploughboy in Luck, Dance a Baby, Lavender's Blue, Jolly Miller, etc. The nature of the binding and paper suggest early 20th century publication date. .
