1928. ("Doc") in purple fountain pen ink on his engraved Aboard The "Fisherman" letterhead, Tuesday 21 [1928]. 7 1/4" x 10 1/2". Together with the original holograph mailing envelope, stamped with a New Zealand 1 cent stamp and postmarked Maunga, New Zealand and stamped again Altadena, Calif., September 8, 1928. Fine. To Mrs. Zane Grey Altadena, California (Altadena marked out and Avalon added): In part: ". . . Please, in the future, pay strict attention to a request I have made several times. Put my personal letters, without envelopes in your own letters, absolutely. This last letter was a . . . love letter from that d--- fool s---'s woman, and it got me in heaps of trouble.Please heed this . . . Otherwise, all okay. I am still hopeful for the big fish".
