Springfield, MA: Bill, Nichols & Co., 1870. First edition. Hardcover. Very good (or better). Full leather with fancy embossed covers and spine, with rubbed gilt stamped letters on spine. Edges visibly but lightly worn and outer edges soft, minute loss of leather; two short tears at head of spine; spine is a shade lighter (sunned). Well bound, both covers firmly attached with chalky brown end pages, also clean. Several pages in the volume has light damp staining to the upper edge, limited to about 1/2 x 2 inches, or smaller in size; includes most of the inserted plates, also the frontispiece but not the title page; some pages near plates show foxing, otherwise very little foxing with still bright leaves, and very good presswork. Totally unmarked, no former owner labels, etc... 552 pages, plus frontispiece and 8 other plates. Scans available.
