London: Chatto & Windus, 1920. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. A first edition poetry collection by Robert Nichols, with the author's handwritten poem tipped in. The first edition. In the publisher's original, full cloth binding. With a handwritten poem, titled 'The Rain', tipped in to the front paste-down and signed by the author, dated 1918. A collection of poetry by the First World War poet, Robert Nicholls. Including 'Sonnets to Aurelia', 'Encounters', 'The Flower of the Flame', and more. Nicholls served in the Royal Field Artillery on the Western Front, and fought in the Battle of Loos and Somme. He was a prominent member of social circles in London, and later became Professor of English Literature at the University of Tokyo. With an ink signature for Roger Quilter to the front free endpaper. Roger Quilter was a British composer, and prominent figure in the English art song tradition. With one page of 'Press Opinions on Ardours and Endurances' to the rear of the book. The half title page is present. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges and light marks to the boards. Spine is darkened. Age-toning to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Handwritten poem tipped in to the front free endpaper. Roger Quilter's ink signature to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Very Good
