Henry Wilder Foote spent his religious career at minister at King's Chapel, originally founded as the official Anglican, Church of England congregation in 1686, and located in the busy downtown Boston intersection of Tremont and School streets. As described in the Introduction, this book is meant as a successor volume to Dr. Greenwood's 1833 title on the same, to include more research on the Anglican chapel's place under colonial and Puritan administrations, and taking into account more general history of New England. The upheavals of the American Revolution, and shifting nature of the political climate had profound effects on the composition of the Church's members, at times putting them at odds with the Crown-appointed church leaders.
