Paris: Alphonse Lemerre, 1887. Leather bound. Fair. In French. 8vo. Contemporary morocco with hubbed spine, gilt top edge, and gilt borders to covers. Deckle edge. Marbled endpapers. Rainbow-colored ribbon attached. 348 pp.
Wear to edges. Strip of leather chipped off at header of spine, and larger strip, about 1"x1/2", leather chipped off at footer. Front hinge split, leaving front board attached only at top hub. Minor toning to page edges. Interior excellent.
This is an early printing of French novelist and critic Bourget's third book. This novel has never been translated into English.
