Little Rock, Arkansas: Central Printing Company, 1932. A book about the John Stephens, an immigrant who married into the Cherokee nation. It describes the forced migration of the Cherokee people, known as the Trail of Tears. The story is told by John Thornton, a descendant of Stephens. 176 pp. with photographs, letters and songs at conclusion of text. Maroon cloth covers with Native American image on front cover, title and image of swastika (seen as a symbol of good fortune by the Native Americans) on the spine. Red top page ends. Cover is clean with small scuff mark on front. Spine ends are slightly bumped. Back cover hinge loose. Interior clean, no marks. Gift inscription on front free endpaper by John W. Shleppey: "Best Wishes Robert F. Sims, from John W. Shleppey 12-11-1958". Laid-in notecard with Cherokee Alphabet and instructions how to read it, with Shleppey's return address stamped on back side. Shleppey was a collector of books and manuscripts about Native Americans, who donated his collection to the University of Tulsa's McFarlin Library in 1975. . First Edition. Hard Cover.
