Dyhrenfurth- leader of the American Mount Everest Expedition, explorer, and motion picture producer-director-has been mountaineering since 1928. In 1960 he was a member of the Swiss Dhaulagiri Expedition, which made the first ascent of 26,975-foot Dhaulagiri, the highest peak ever scaled without oxygen.
