New York: Harry N. Abrams,, 1985. First edition, first printing. In the American West was published in conjunction with the exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1985. Seven years earlier, the museum had commissioned Avedon to photograph ordinary people living in the Western US. Between 1979 and 1984, Avedon made numerous trips through the region and photographed over 800 subjects, of which about 120 were included in the final exhibition. Folio. Original tan cloth, mounted photographic portraits to each board, boards and spine lettered in black. With the original acetate dust jacket. Illustrated in monochrome throughout. Fine in fine dust jacket.
