About This Item

William Heinemann, London and J.B.Lippincott, Philadelphia [1916]., 1916. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first trade edition, printed at The Complete Press in West Norwood and issued alongside a deluxe limited issue. 8vo. xxii, 122pp. Blue cloth lettered in gold at the spine, with black lettering and two gilt-stamped Rackham decorations to the upper board. With illustrated endpapers, a title page decoration, a colour frontispiece and eleven full-page colour plates each with a captioned protector (the protector for the final plate detached and laid-in), plus twenty-four black and white illustrations as head and tail pieces, or in the text. Some wear to the cloth at the backstrip ends and several corner tips. The hinges a little tender, the free endpapers browned and with a little edge-creasing and a single tiny tear to the frontispiece. Quite a nice crisp copy of this delightfully illustrated collection of thirteen fairy stories from assorted allied nations (including English, Welsh, Irish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Russian, Serbian and Belgian)..
