London: Macmillan and Co., Ltd., 1896. Book. Very good condition. Hardcover. First Edition. Quarto (4to). xx, 436 pages of text. Original maroon hardcover binding with a printed paper spine label. The spine is moderately sunned and rubbed, and there is other minor shelfwear; protected in custom-fitted archival mylar. Limited to 500 copies printed, this large paper edition is complete with 12 original black-and-white lithographs by Joseph Pennell (1857-1926), signed in the plate. The pages edges are uncut and untrimmed, and in many cases the protruding edge is moderately browned, with a few edges soiled. There are approximately two dozen instances of minor soiling in the text. The endpapers are moderately foxed, and the corners of the first six pages have tiny perforations, affecting the margins only. First edition. .
