About This Item
Williamsburg: The College of William and Mary in Virginia, 1989. Softcover. VG (Edges have only light wear.). Dark aqua & color illus. wraps, 416 pp., BW & color illus. Issued in conjunction with a 1989 exhibition celebrating art at the time of William III and Mary II, the namesakes of the College of William and Mary in Virgniia. "Concentrating equally on issues and objects, our goal has been to appraise the connections among the cultural, social, economic, and political contexts of the 1690s and to probe beyond the widely discussed politics and arts into religion, cartography, international trade, empire building, pirates, the navy, siegecraft, education, philosophy, science, medicine, printers and publishers, periodicals, finance, and the impact of the Glorious Revolution on the New World." (p. 5) Whew! This aim is accomplished through 46 illustrated essays and a catalog of 215 items, as well as an extensive set of bibliographies per topic. Anglophiles, rejoice!
