Small 8vo. vii, 392 pp. Contemporary half tan calf over red boards with raised bands, black title label, gilt borders and lettering to spine; marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Marks to boards and leather, with rubbing to joints and corners. Occasional pencil annotations, otherwise internally clean. An early edition of this collection of six Wilkie Collins short stories - "The Traveller's Story of a Terribly Strange Bed", "The Lawyer's Story of a Stolen Letter", "The French Governess's Story of Sister Rose", "The Angler's Story of the Lady of Glenwith Grange", "The Nun's Story of Gabriel's Marriage", and "The Professor's Story of the Yellow Mask"- five of which were previously published in the 1850s in Household Words, the magazine edited by Charles Dickens. . Very Good. Half Calf. New Edition. 1900.

Synopsis

First published in this form 1856, these stories are linked by the story of Leah, itself a substantial story and each has a prologue. Collins's preface is also included. Contains the following separate stories: "Leaves from Leah's Diary"; "The Traveler's Story of a Terribly Strange Bed"; "The Lawyer's Story of a Stolen Letter"; "The French Governess's Story of Sister Rose"; "The Angler's Story of The Lady of Glenwith Grange"; "The Nun's Story of Gabriel's Marriage"; "The Professor's Story of The Yellow Mask."

Courier services available. We are also able to offer same day delivery within London postcodes for some orders - ask for a quote. Valuable items will be sent via registered airmail or one of the courier services. Large orders can be sent via consolidation, which reduces the cost per book. In the unlikely event of an incorrect description, a full refund will be provided, but please e-mail/telephone first, and within seven days of receipt of the book. We are happy to comply to the EU's rules on distance selling. All books are published in London and 8vo unless stated, and remain my property until paid for in full.
