About This Item
Crown Publishers, New York., 1960. First edition. Six-page introduction by Langston Hughes. Octavo. pp xvi, 297. Endpaper maps.Presentation copy from Langston Hughes, inscribed by him on the half-title page: ''for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah - Sincerely - Langston Hughes 1960''. A significant association: Hughes and Nkrumah were both leading figures in the Pan-African movement as well as being fellow alumni of Lincoln University. The text of Nkrumah's 1958 speech to the U.S. Senate is included in this book under ''Miscellaneous''. He was a regular visitor to Harlem, where Hughes lived, and where in the year of the inscription he gave an address to a rally of African-Americans. In the same year he became the first president of newly-independent Ghana.Very slightly bumping to corners of covers. Very good indeed in good, rubbed, slightly dusty and marked, price-clipped dustwrapper.
