Endpapers browned, armorial bookplate of Sir Philip Lee Brocklehurst to FEP The first English edition of an account of the ill-fated attempt to colonise Wrangel Island (1921-23) on behalf of the Canadian and British governments. The narrative is primarily based on the diary of Errol Lorne Knight, one of the five-member landing party. The expedition resulted in the deaths of four of the party, including Knight, due to a lack of sufficient supplies. Ada Blackjack, an Eskimo, was the sole survivor. Sir Philip Lee Brocklehurst (1887-1975), Antarctica explorer and member of Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition. . First English edition. 8vo.
