About This Item
London: John Murray, 1860. 5th . Hardcover. Fair. First printing of the 5th revised edition "with numerous additions and improvements, from a copy annotated by the author". Pp. xxiii, 619, frontis plates (Sketch of a Guest-chamber"), 131 illustrations, F appendices, index, errata, large octavo format in dark green buckram with extensive gilt decorations to the front board and spine. Contents are Good with moderate foxing to the preliminary pages up to the frontis, just minor foxing in places elsewhere, but most plates are quite fresh and clean. Buckram and gilt is quite bright overall, but the spine is slightly faded as expected. Average evidence of use to extremities, with short pull-tears to spine and tips worn through. Both inner hinges have been reinforced. A decent copy overall with the flaws mentioned.
