Part of the spiritual life of Australia's aboriginal people is painting. This 24 plus 27 page booklet recognizes three art types : engraving, sculpture and painting. First part of book is text and the illustrations - including several fold-out pages - are the back half. Back half includes BIBLIO and fold-out Table of Contents. Learn more about : Arnhem Land, Burumburumrunya, Milingimbi, Oenpelli, Goulburn Island, Serpent Yarapi, and Giro-Giro drawings. Cond: Paper wrapper is white with black lettering. Front cover graphic is reproduction of the painting from Unbalanya Hill, detailing the pursuit of the evil spirit: Adungun. Corners, edges, and spine have minimal wear. Minimal soiling as well. P/O name on title. No tears, no creases, no marks. Binding sound, colours bright. great reference !! Quote (p. 19) : " The colours used in bark painting are made from red, yellow, black, and white pigments which are ground, with water, on coarse-textured flat stones until they are of a cream-like consistency. Some of the pigments are obtained locally, others are . .".
