Should the article drawn not be deemed compensate, On returning the order and fifteen cents more, They will have the same chance for a prize as before... But the manner of drawing is not quite the same, For we charge you ten cents, just to look at the name Of an article valued from one and aquarter Of dollars, to ten... Then give us a trial- 'twill cost but ten cents- There's no humbug about it- "no nig'r in the fence"... And now the Gift Business has had a full share Of our rhymes so we'll turn to the boys with curled hair- They will doubtless amuse you, fpr every one knows That you cannot help laughing to see those four Crows, And then Uncle Singhi, through his instrument's stringy, Will make that old banjo to ring, a ding, dinghi... And Professor John Singhi is some, you can bet, When he lays himself out on that E flat cornet... When your purse-strings are opened. Just think as you go Looking round the Levee, of Poor Billy Barlow." George Thornton Edwards, in Music and Musicians of Maine, lists John Singhi as the first leader of the Rockland Band, and that one of their earliest concerts by this band was given in 1856. .
