Tuskegee, Alabama: n/a, 1905. Letter. Very good. Letters. First letter typed on Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute is dated March 4, 1904. Letter is approximately 10.5" x 8". 1 page of content. First letter written to Mr. Isaac N. Seligman, Mills Building, New York, N.Y. reads - "My dear Mr. Seligman: -- I write to you to say that Mr. Edmund Thierry Delanous of Paris has just reached Tuskegee, and is stopping a day or two with Mrs. Washington and me. We find him a very interesting personality and feel greatly obliged to you for urging him to include Tuskegee in his itinerary. We are putting him in the way of learning all that he can about our work. He plans to be with us for a day or two. with cordial regards, I am Very Truly yours, [signed[ Booker T. Washington." The second typed letter on Tuskegee letterhead, approx. 9" x 6", is one short page. Letter is dated April 17, 1905 and also addressed to Mr. Isaac N. Seligman. Washington writes, "My dear Mr. Seligman:-The picture has arrived, and I wish to assure you that we are most grateful for it. You cannot appreciate how much we value it and how much good it will do our students and teachers. Yours very truly, [signed] booker T Washington." Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) was born into slavery in Virginia. He attended the Hampton Institute in his twenties. At the recommendation of Samuel Chapman Armstrong, president of Hampton Institute, Washington founded the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama in 1881.

Isaac Newton Seligman (July 10, 1855 - September 30, 1917) was an American banker and communal worker. He was connected with almost all the important social reform committees in New York. He was a trustee of nineteen important commercial, financial, and other institutions and societies, including the Munich Life Assurance Company, St. John's Guild, and the McKinley Memorial Association. He was a member of the Committee of Seventy, of Fifteen, and of Nine, each of which attempted at various times to reform municipal government in New York; of the last-named body he was chairman. He was a trustee of Temple Emanu-El and of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum, as well as of the United Hebrew Charities, and also a member of the Ethical Culture Society.
