1953. No Binding. Very Good. 3 1/4 x 8 inches. Original typed Directive on “Prime Minister” embossed letterhead initial-signed in ink: “WC.” The Directive reads: “Statements affecting Cabinet proceedings and policy should not be made in relation to assertions in particular newspapers. If the great majority of the newspapers took up a matter of this character it would require special consideration. The proper course however is to await a Question in Parliament.” File-punched at the upper left corner and straight-pinned, with a penciled date of “10, 7, 53,” the Directive is in excellent condition, measuring 3 1/4 x 8 inches. An inked notation in John Colville’s hand below Churchill’s initial signature reads: “No. 10 so instructed Mr. Fife Clark and Sir N. Brook informed Lord Swinton and Sir Adeane. JRC.” Majestically framed, matted in silk, with a vintage press photograph of Churchill reading a newspaper in 1954. In June 1953, Winston Churchill suffered a stroke that was… Read More

Description:
1946. No Binding. Very Good. 7 /14 x 9 3/4 inches (Framed: (16 x 17 3/4 inches). Signed and dated in ink: “Winston S. Churchill 1946,” this candid photograph was taken September 19, 1946 en route to the University of Zurich, where Winston Churchill was about to deliver his most famous postwar speech on European unity, advocating for the first time “a United States of Europe.” Majestically framed (16 x 17 3/4 inches overall), the photograph measures 7 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches. It is part of an elaborate linen presentation portfolio of photographs taken that day documenting all of Churchill’s movements in Zurich. Each print is very handsomely mounted and page-numbered, comprising 44 pages in all, including this one (numbered 12). The portfolio is stained and crunched on the spine but the contents are fine. Laid-in is a letter of provenance from the heirs of the original owner, the Town Clerk of Zurich in 1946, one Dr. Willy Bosshard. Truly one-of-a-kind.

Description:
1936. No Binding. Very Good. (8 x 10 inches). At the onset of his “Wilderness Years,” in 1930, Winston Churchill hired Mrs. Violet Pearman as his first resident secretary, based by his side at Chartwell almost exclusively. “Mrs. P.” quickly became indispensable to Churchill, sharing these tumultuous years as intimately as anyone; taking down just about every word of Churchill’s letters, articles and book-length literary endeavors by hand herself. In this very personal letter, dated March 23rd, 1936, on Chartwell letterhead, Churchill anxiously offers to pay for Mrs. Pearman’s medical expenses resulting from an accident. “Dear Mrs. Pearman, You must certainly stay in bed until you are fit to be ex-rayed, and then follow the Doctor's orders,” Churchill writes. “Let me know when you are able to do any typing...But get well as soon as you can, and do not worry about anything. If you are not insured I will pay for any necessary scientific treatment that is required, and your salary… Read More
