Description:
Chesterfield: J. Bradley, 1787. Bound in 19th century pebbled boards, stamped in gold. This is apparently a proof copy of the book that was published in 1788 (of which there are only two copies on OCLC/Worldcat). There are no copies of this book noted. It is handwritten on the title page that this was a gift of the author. This copy has 12 pages unlike the 1788 edition which has 25 pp. with a diagram. Pagination: iii,[1}, 5-12 (the Solution) - Finis on p.12. Following blank un-numbered page are two diagrams. I believe this may be the only copy of this printing in existence. . First Edition. Description:
NY: Knopf, 1943. Bound in light green cloth, stamped in forest green. Only flaws to book are a bit of dustiness to edges and a small number 5649 written on the ffep. The dustwrapper has had some minor restoration work done to the top of the spine. Shows a little darkening to the rear panel. But no chips, tears to speak of. One of 6000 copies in the first edition. Overall, a tight, clean copy of the book in original dustwrapper -- rare in this protected condition. Basis for the bizarre movie directed by George Haight of the same title that starred Robert Montgomery as Marlowe -- but because of the "subjective camera" method -- you rarely see the actor. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine.

Description:
Chicago: J.H.N. (John Henry Nash), 1940. This is the scarce limited edition of the first edition of this early work by Miller, limited to 250 copies in the first edition. The thing that makes this book so interesting is that besides being inscribed and signed by Miller to the NYC literary agent, Henry Volkening, there is a whole page of Errata notes (10 total) in the author's neat hand. It is signed and dated 11/16/41. My thought is that Volkening was a go-between to the editor for the later NYC printing of the book -- and this is Miller's notes to him prior to that publication. A one-of-a-kind Miller signed collectable. . Inscribed and Signed By Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/VG++.

Description:
New York: The New Yorker , 1927. The first edition of the author's first book. Publisher's 1/4 cloth over decorative boards with bright printed label to front panel. Published without a dust jacket. This book collects a series of advertisements by White with his accompanying photographs that ran in The New Yorker magazine. Certainly a small print run reserved for agents and preferred customers. Hence the scarcity. Unusually sound for this spartanly produced binding. White notes that " the Sterling Finney advertisements were written by me. They ran in the magazine in the early years when it was trying to promote its circulation. I posed the dummies--figures I found in Wanamaker's department store" (White, quoted in Hall). Rare, with only one copy appearing at auction in the past 10 years. Hall A1.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good ++/No Jacket - As Published. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
