The first appearance of the 24 Sherlock Holmes adventures preceeding the first publishing of the books "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" (according A10 and A14 Green/Gibson). Including many of the famous original illustrations of Sidney Paget which help form the popular image of Holmes. Also very interesting is the article in Vol. IV about the daily life of Dr. Doyle with photos of him, his wife and his home. One example: "Towards The North Pole" by Dr. Fridtjof Nansen. Books are in very good condition. Some light wear and mild soiling to edges and picture to front. Pages are generally bright and clear,only a few are a little stained.The bindings are tight. A very rare collectable set of the first appearance of these famous stories. Hard to find in this very good condition. All articles are richly illustrated and gives you an overall impression of the english life at the end of the 19th. century.

Some discolouration and internal foxing, some rubbing on extremities of hardcovers, some separation internally of book spine, otherwise a very fine copies. Four volumes of the Stand Magazine dating from January 1891 to December 1892. The British monthly magazine was founded in 1890 by Sir George Newness (1st Baron) and is most famous for being the first publication to publish Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Adventures of Sherlock Homes. The name of the magazine originates from the proximity of its offices to The Strand - London's Oldest Street, and the heart of a city that was the centre of the cultural and economic world, when during the Victorian Era when the British Empire was at its most dominant. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
